I finally decided to give the AIGLX and Compiz 3D effects a try on my FC6. I'm running a 256 MB nVidia 7300 GS video card and have the latest Livna driver installed.
If I type "desktop-effects" in a terminal window, I get the little dialog box that lets my click on the desktop effects button, and then it works perfectly and I get no error messages in the terminal. I get rotating cube and wobbly windows and all that cool stuff. The only problem is that when I either log out or reboot, windows "freeze." I can't get teh menu bars to highlight when I click on them or move any open windows. I can still get into the Gnome panel and disable the desktop effects by reclicking the "desktop effects" button.
I've searched through fedoraforums.net and found a huge thread on getting 3D to work, and have tried things like "gnome-window-decorator --replace" and "compiz --replacegconf" but still haven't gotten it to work.
Place to discuss Fedora and/or Red Hat
