Hey Guys,
I have no sound in Slack. What's going on? I am using a onboard ESS allegro but windows see it as PCI but anyway.
another question. how come slackware does have as good hardware setup as Redhat?
thanks,
buzza
no sound!! am i deaf??
Resurrected:
I installed Slackware on a laptop with an ESS1879 soundchip, and had troubles too.
You can build the module and add it to the kernel,
you can build the driver into the kernel,
or you can install the ALSA drivers, pretty sure they have one that works.
I had a hard time configuring the ALSA drivers, but building support into the kernel and inserting a module into the kernel worked just fine, with no hitches, on the first try.
Legacy sound cards are no fun in Linux.
