Yahoo and it's wonderful chat client!

Post by JoeDude »

I was trying to install yahoo. Was doing good until I tried to take care of a dependency with xlib. Here's what I got
joedude@joedude-desktop:~$ sudo dpkg -i xlibs_6.9.0.dfsg.1-6_all.deb
Selecting previously deselected package xlibs.
(Reading database ... 77337 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking xlibs (from xlibs_6.9.0.dfsg.1-6_all.deb) ...
cp: `/etc/X11/xkb/rules/xfree86' and `/etc/X11/xkb/rules/xorg' are the same filedpkg: error processing xlibs_6.9.0.dfsg.1-6_all.deb (--install):
subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
xlibs_6.9.0.dfsg.1-6_all.deb
joedude@joedude-desktop:~$
is there a workaround for this, am I FUBAR'ing the system beyond belief?
Here's what I did before hand...
joedude@joedude-desktop:~$ sudo dpkg -i libgdk-pixbuf2_0.22.0-11_i386.deb
Selecting previously deselected package libgdk-pixbuf2.
(Reading database ... 77308 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking libgdk-pixbuf2 (from libgdk-pixbuf2_0.22.0-11_i386.deb) ...
Setting up libgdk-pixbuf2 (0.22.0-11) ...

joedude@joedude-desktop:~$ sudo dpkg -i libssl0.9.6_0.9.6c-2.woody.8_i386.deb
Selecting previously deselected package libssl0.9.6.
(Reading database ... 77331 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking libssl0.9.6 (from libssl0.9.6_0.9.6c-2.woody.8_i386.deb) ...
Setting up libssl0.9.6 (0.9.6c-2.woody.8) ...
All I wanted to do was get into the police and fire chat rooms...Yahoo had to go and end thier java based chat and made it so you have to go through the messenger now...

Apparently xkeyboard-config is the new name for this file. Does that help any?

btw, this is the output from the terminal;
joedude@joedude-desktop:~$ sudo dpkg -i ymessenger_1.0.4_1_i386.deb
Selecting previously deselected package ymessenger.
(Reading database ... 77810 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking ymessenger (from ymessenger_1.0.4_1_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of ymessenger:
ymessenger depends on xlibs (>> 3.3.6); however:
Package xlibs is not installed.
dpkg: error processing ymessenger (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
ymessenger

And gaim should be available in your apt repository (if it's not already installed):

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt-get install gaim

According to the FAQ it's supposed to:

http://gaim.sourceforge.net/faq.php#q16

I don't use any chat client so I can't really help other than searching google.

Yet another one...!
http://cspace.in/

What is CSpace?

CSpace provides a platform for secure, decentralized, user-to-user communication over the internet. The driving idea behind the CSpace platform is to provide a connect(user, service) primitive, similar to the sockets API connect(ip,port). Applications built on top of CSpace can simply invoke connect(user, service) to establish a connection. The CSpace platform will take care of locating the user and creating a secure, nat/firewall friendly connection. Thus the application developers are relieved of the burden of connection establishment, and can focus on the application-level logic!

CSpace is developed in Python. It uses OpenSSL for crypto, and Qt for the GUI. CSpace is licensed under the GPL.
