Retry to ReUPing the networkd card

Post by Basher52 » Mon Mar 07, 2011 5:45 pm

We had a very short power loss at noon today, no more then half a second, but all our equipment rebooted.

Rebooting is a good thing, but since our ISP also had the power loss... and wasn't working until about 45 minutes later... when my gateway server was up and trying to reup the NIC,
it just tried once and since it couldn't get the IP from the DHCP server it didn't go up
... and here my question arises...

Is there something that I missed or don't know about that can make the NIC to retry like in every X minutes or so?
If not, can someone help me to create such a script, 'cos I suck at BASH :( and especially the very good thing called: awk

Since all our equipment sits behind the gateway server nothing can connect to the ISP network and thus... internet and if the gateway don't won't "go up"
so does nothing behind it.

I think it should keep retrying if you have it set to DHCP. What do your logs show?

The DHCP log entries should be in /var/log/messages.

Can say that this isn't all, 'cos this is all I can "tag" in "one" console screen, unless there is another way.
"Using SecureCRT to get to the console"

Just grep for dhclient around the time of the power failure.
