What I would do at this stage is a complete reinstall of kde.
Uninstall everything, purging all of the config files and reinstall kde.
First you might try to just reinstall kdelibs ...
But I actually use kde so that makes sense, why do you bother installing kde at all if you don't plan to use it?
If you install a kde app Yast will surely resolve the dependencies and install all of the necessary libs and stuff ...

I'm not setting this computer up for myself. It's going to be for a guy I work with and his kids. They may well want to use KDE. He's sick of MSWindows and all the viruses and other malware and wants to try Linux.why do you bother installing kde at all if you don't plan to use it?
